*Inside Jazz City: Arifin Shuvoo on Trust, Improvisation and Building Jimmy’s Character*

Beyond the neon-lit streets and high-stakes espionage of 1970s Kolkata, Jazz City is a story of collaboration and trust as much as it is of revolution. At the heart of Sony LIV’s upcoming series lies the creative partnership between lead actor Arifin Shuvoo and creator-director Soumik Sen, a dynamic that allowed the series to grow beyond the written script.

During the shoot, the process was driven by instinct and mutual confidence. Soumik Sen encouraged Arifin to deeply explore Jimmy—a layered and complex character—while allowing room for improvisation on set, adding a sense of realism that reflects the spirit of the era.

Reflecting on the experience, Arifin shared, “Stepping into a world as layered as Jazz City required a director who didn’t just give instructions but shared a vision. Soumik Da had complete faith in me from day one. He created a space where I could improvise, follow Jimmy’s instincts, and truly embody him. When an actor knows the filmmaker trusts their gut, performances go beyond the ordinary. Jimmy is as much a product of Soumik Da's vision as he is of my creative freedom.”

_*Set to premiere on 19 March, Jazz City promises a thrilling journey of espionage and rebellion, anchored by a creative collaboration where trust and instinct helped bring its characters vividly to life.*_
