Sheena Chohan Delivers a Soul-Stirring Performance in Sant Tukaram

The first behind-the-scenes photos of Sant Tukaram have just been released — along with a wave of heartfelt reactions to Sheena Chohan’s powerful performance as Avali, which audiences are calling “magnetic, moving, and authentic.” Sheena, who plays Tukaram’s wife — the soul of the film — shared the emotional and physical intensity the role demanded. “We were shooting in the interiors of Maharashtra, Bhor, and in heavy traditional attire, but I had one goal — to make Avali honest, believable , compelling and real. Alive. Someone people would feel, not just watch, bringing my directors vision to life”, with empathy, she said.

To achieve that realism, Sheena worked closely with director Aditya Om, who insisted on simplicity and truth in every frame. “That meant no shortcuts — emotionally or physically,” she explains. “We detailed everything down — from makeup to dialogue — so that what came through was real devotion, stillness, and inner strength.” Her collaboration with Subodh Bhave, who plays Sant Tukaram, added another layer of authenticity. “Our connection had to feel lived-in,” she says. “People are saying our chemistry felt effortless — that it brought warmth, truth, and a deep emotional bond to the screen.”

As the film goes into it’s second week, Audiences and critics alike have praised Sheena’s ability to portray Avali’s grace, fire within, vulnerability and quiet strength with striking authenticity. Reviews highlight her emotional restraint , naturally real and honesty, with comments such as “Sheena Chohan is the soul of the film,” “Her presence is magnetic and deeply moving,” and “She brought stillness, strength, and devotion to life.” Her rawness, simplicity, and powerful silences have become key talking points — a performance that doesn't scream, but breathes and lingers.

The film is rooted to Indian culture and a historical biopic that reminds us of the silent pillars behind every revolution — Avali was one of those rare women, the unwavering strength beside one who embraced a mission far greater than oneself.
